Ultrasound
Dr. Hartwick, a board certified radiologist and president of Delta Radiology, received his medical degree and completed his radiology residency at Loma Linda University. Prior to joining Delta Radiology, Dr. Hartwick was Air Force flight surgeon. His special interests include mammography, breast ultrasound and image guided breast biopsies. He is a member of the Radiological Society of North America, American Medical Association and the California Medical Society.
MRI
MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) uses radio waves and a strong magnetic field rather than x-rays to provide remarkably clear and detailed pictures of internal organs and tissues.
Radiology
It is typically performed in conjunction with routine abdominal MR imaging of the abdomen. New, rapid MR imaging techniques now available at Delta Radiology allow both to be performed with optimal patient comfort. It requires no injections or oral contrast material although patients are asked to remain free of oral intake for 4 hours prior to the procedure.

Mammography
Mammography is an excellent way to detect breast abnormalities, but in many cases it is not possible to tell from the imaging studies alone whether a growth is benign or cancerous. To make this determination it is necessary to obtain a tissue sample for microscopic examination. As an alternative to open surgical biopsy, which removes a larger specimen for microscopic analysis, a hollow needle may be passed through the skin into the suspicious lesion with the help of special breast x-rays.
