The Livonia Police Department is comprised of several bureaus, including detective, intelligence, traffic, patrol, communications, special weapons and tactics, reserve officers, community security and special operations. The department provides law enforcement throughout the city of Livonia, Mich., and is a division of the city s government. The department s primary responsibilities include providing enforcement of laws that relate to crimes against persons and property, as well as initiating investigations into such crimes. It also enforces codes and ordinances pertaining to traffic and parking. In addition, the department participates in programs that are geared toward community awareness and crime prevention. The police department maintains records and compiles reports regarding emergency calls, types of reported crimes and offender registrations. It also files reports on behalf of residents pertaining to crimes and traffic accidents.
