Conventional training when done with the same volume. It is important to understand that BFR training does NOT stop blood flow to the limb. Using pneumatic tourniquet-like cuffs placed at either the closest part of the leg or closet part of the arm, an individually-calculated pressure is applied to the cuff that limits the amount of blood flow returning from your limb. Doppler ultrasound is used to ensure fresh arterial blood and oxygen is still entering the limb. By restricting the venous blood from leaving the limb, muscle tissue is stimulated by an increased concentration of metabolic growth factors. Blood flow restriction therapy causes a release of your own body’s human-growth-hormone (HGH) from the pituitary gland. HGH causes growth of muscle, bone and nearly every cell in the body, and it enhances fat loss.

Occupational Therapy
Our hand therapy services are provided in one-on-one treatment sessions by our Certified Hand Therapists. We focus on giving direct hands-on therapy, useful and clear education, and custom bracing/splinting to help injuries and surgeries heal properly. We help you learn the basics of bone, ligament, and tendon healing so that you can understand your injury and move forward in your hand rehabilitation. As Certified Hand Therapists (CHT’s) we have specialized training in the treatment and recovery of the elbow, wrist, and hand. The credential of CHT is achieved by completion of a Physical or Occupational Therapy program, years of direct treatment of hand injuries, followed by a national board exam. We strive to provide you the highest level of knowledge and expertise in your therapy.

A doctor who moved from San Antonio, Texas, to Portland called the clinic one day and asked, “What’s up with the epidemic of elbow and forearm pain around here?” His question came from the large volume of people who were experiencing elbow and forearm pain in the Pacific Northwest, as compared to Texas. Although elbow pain is not limited to the Northwest, it does seem to occur in greater numbers around here. Why is that? A 2015 article in the Annals of Translational Medicine noted a common elbow problem known as Tennis Elbow, affects approximately 1,000,000 people per year in the United States. Cold weather was noted as a factor in elbow pain. The variable weather we experience in the Northwest often leads to people being less active for many months. It may feel good to jump into activities such as biking or gardening at the first sight of sun, but the muscles and tendons may be weak from months of watching movies during the rainy season.

Gresham SportsCare has an AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill, Sandy SportsCare offers Aquatic Therapy, and Clackamas SportsCare has parallel bars to specifically address patients with balance and/or weight bearing restrictions.

The body is a series of joints which have direct impact on one another. The foot and ankle, being the first along the chain, have a major impact on everything above them.
