Mitropoulos Architects was formed in January 1985 as a partnership between Andrew and Philip Mitropoulos to provide architectural consulting services to clients in the New York Metropolitan area and the East End of Long Island. Philip Mitropoulos has been the sole proprietor since Andrew's retirement in 1987, although Andrew continues to be involved as a consulting architect. Philip Mitropoulos, A.I.A., a native of Long Island New York, received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1979 from the Rhode Island School of Design and received his Bachelor of Architecture degree in 1980. He earned European Honors while at R.I.S.D. allowing him to study in Rome for the academic year between 1978 and 1979. Philip received his license to practice architecture in the State of New York in 1984. In 1987 he acquired his certification with the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards. Philip Mitropoulos is a member of the American Institute of Architects and maintains current registration in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. Prior to joining Mitropoulos Architects in 1984 Philip was employed by two distinguished New York architectural firms where he gained experience in the design and production of technical drawings for commercial, residential and institutional buildings. At Beyer, Blinder, Belle Philip was involved in the design and production drawings for Barney's New York ; he helped design the new women's store, including the complete renovation of seven tenement buildings and the provision of new storefronts, interior fire stairs, first floor custom ceiling details, penthouse custom dome skylight and designs for other boutiques within the new space. For Urbahn Associates, he spent three years developing his understanding of large institutional projects for governmental agencies. He worked for four months in Stuttgart, Germany as an exchange employee in the offices of Weidleplan, Consulting Engineers, Urbahn's former parent company. Mitropoulos Architects works with private, not for profit and government agency clients. The projects have included top quality retail stores, commercial interiors, custom residential alterations and new buildings, housing for the emotionally and mentally disabled, health related facilities, and child care centers. Services offered by Mitropoulos Architects include feasibility studies, design, preparation of construction drawings and specifications, cost estimates and construction administration. Engineering services are provided through consultants retained by Mitropoulos Architects
