Celsion Corporation designs technology and products used in the treatment of cancer via focused heat techniques. The company s two main areas of expertise are breast cancer and benign prostatic hyperplasia treatment systems. In addition to its treatment systems, Celsion has also developed treatment drugs and gene-based biological modifiers that use heat to increase their effectiveness. Celsion was established in 1997 with the acquisition of the commercial rights to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology s adaptive-phased array thermo-therapy technology. It has headquarters in Columbia, Md. The company initially started doing business in 1982 as Cheung Laboratories. In addition, Celsion also partners with Duke University to evaluate its prostate, liver and breast cancer treatment devices.
