Overall

On Friday, I ordered a rush print copy of my manuscript (I'm a writer.) It was due at 4:30. When I arrived at 5:20, ample time after the due, the woman at the copy counter ignored me, then acted very confused, and proceeded to tell me "Oh no, we can't do rush orders the same day because we are too backed up. I can't do that." I made it clear I wasn't budging, and she printed it for me while there. Then she told me she couldn't staple it because it was too many pages (which if that's the case, Staples.com should show their options for stapling before somebody checks out.) She then offered me alternate bindings- and proceeded to try to SELL me a premium binding. I was angry, and refused. Good customer service would have given it me for free at that point. By 6:00 I left, having paid $40, without a bound copy of my now loose 375 pages. If I had wanted to do that, I would have printed it at home. Thank you Staples, for failing a long time customer. The woman working the copy counter is an absolute disservice to the company, and I have already filed a formal complaint against the copy center with Staples.com. This store is a travesty. I will be taking my business elsewhere from now on. A $40 waste of my time.

At approximately 11:15 this mo...

At approximately 11:15 this morning, I went to the Langhorne, PA store to purchase a desk chair. After 15 minutes of looking at the chairs, I was unable to find any sales associate who could tell me if the chair I wanted was in stock, so I decided to leave.

As I was leaving the store, the female employee at the cash register/customer service desk (blonde hair, not natural) said “Have a nice day.” Then, as I started to walk out the door, she said “Or not.”

I stopped and asked her what she said. She said “I said, ‘Have a nice day,’” I asked what she said after that and she said “I said. ‘Or not.’”

I asked her to call the store manager and she would not do so. Instead she started reciting a list of different managers at the store. Finally, the male employee at the next register picked up the phone and called the manager, a man identified as Bill.

I told Bill what had happened, told him I would no longer patronize the store as long as people like the female cashier worked there and I left.

I have been a long time Staples customers, going back at least 30 years to when the stores first appeared in the Philadelphia metropolitan area. I do not go to any stores to hear the “clever” remarks of employees, nor do I go there to be the objects of their derisive remarks.

As I told the store manager, Staples has lost me as a customer. There are alternatives so I refuse to do business with any company who employs people such as the cashier I encountered this morning.
