Dr. Giancarlo Speziani provides a wide scope of cardiac care, including diagnostic and interventional electrophysiology. He treats conditions such as arrhythmiasand heart failure, and also provides preventive treatments. Dr. Speziani is board-certified in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology and Cardiovascular Medicine. He is also certified by the North American Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology. Originally from Lima, Peru, Dr. Speziani earned his medical degree and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of South Florida College of Medicine. At the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital, Dr. Speziani completed fellowships in Cardiovascular Medicine, Congestive Heart Failure/Cardiac Transplantation, and Cardiac Electrophysiology. I specialize in clinical cardiac electrophysiology, cardiovascular medicine, congestive heart failure, and cardiac transplantation. What is your patient care philosophy? To listen, empathize, and be kind. What would you like people to know about you as a physician? I am very social and polite, well-trained and experienced. Why did you decide to become a physician? To make patients’ quality of life better and healthier. What do you enjoy most about working with patients? Getting to know my patients’ life stories allows me to understand their needs and expectations. When did you know you wanted to be a doctor? When I was 12 years old, my pediatrician Dr. Quillan was my idol. How does your work improve lives? Treating and curing arrythmias, heart failure, and preventive treatments. What else would you like to share with our readers? I have been fortunate to be in many recent clinical trials of congestive heart failure and atrial fibrillation, thus allowing me to provide the most recent scientific, evidence-based medicine. What are some interesting facts about you? I was born in Lima, Peru (first generation Italian). I return to Peru periodically to perform ablations for patients who do not have access to more modern medical techniques With which community and volunteer organizations are you involved? I volunteer in the Lake Wales free clinic as a cardiologist, taking care of patients who lack insurance. Would you like to share about your family? I come from a large family of 8 children (5 sisters and 2 brothers). My parents came to the United States in 1980. My parents value education highly, so all of us have a college education and some have advanced degrees. What childhood memory do you have about visiting the doctor? My pediatrician was the reason I became a physician; I was always impressed how he was so calm with a clinic full of screaming children! What else would you like to share with our readers? My patients have always complimented me on a good bedside manner and my humor. They trust my knowledge and skill which is vital when performing cardiac interventions.
