Analgesia is used in most restorative procedures, such as fillings and crowns. Nitrous oxide is the analgesic of choice, as it is fast-acting and extremely safe. The soft nosepiece slips into place and your child breathes a fruity-scented air while we work on their teeth. It can make some children feel sleepy, giggly or tingly in their fingers and toes.
Restorative Dentistry

Root Canal Treatment
Nerve Therapy — Pulp therapy or “pulpotomies” are like the root canal equivalent for treating abscessed or severely decayed baby teeth. Removing the infection prevents it from spreading elsewhere in your child’s face while preserving the tooth. In most cases, we will recommend a temporary crown on the tooth until it falls out naturally when the adult tooth erupts.

Gingivectomy and Gingivoplasty
Sometimes teeth don’t erupt like they ought to. To help your child’s tooth come in properly or guide it with orthodontic appliances, we may choose to expose it; to do so, we use a soft tissue laser. Lasers offer faster healing and minimal discomfort, making oral surgeries less invasive for our young patients. Another type of laser surgery that we offer is a gingivectomy or gingivoplasty. Such procedures are used to remove excess gum tissues or overgrowth of gingiva. If your child has fibrous tissues along the gumlines, a laser can easily remove them for a healthier, more aesthetic appearance.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral Surgery
Now and then, children need extensive dental care that goes beyond the routine checkup and cleaning appointment. When oral surgery is a necessity, you need a team of experienced pediatric dentists who can work efficiently to minimize the potentially negative experience for your child (or you as the parent)!
Gum Surgery
Oral Surgery — If a baby tooth can’t be restored, extracting it can relieve and prevent the spread of infection. Laser gum surgery is also available to expose teeth that are having trouble erupting on their own.

Orthodontics
Born and raised in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Dr. Blair graduated dental school at the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry with honors in 2011. She moved to New York City to complete her specialty training in pediatric dentistry at Montefiore Medical Center. After completing her residency in pediatric dentistry and Dr. Blair was accepted to a second residency in orthodontics. She has the rare distinction of being board certified in both pediatric dentistry and orthodontics. Dr. Blair’s husband is a native of the western suburbs of Chicago and they moved to Chicagoland in 2016 to raise their family.
Braces
It’s not always possible to repair badly damaged teeth, especially if they are primary (baby) ones. If severe decay, fractures or an emergency prevent us from placing a filling or crown, the tooth may need to be removed to avoid the spread of infection. Teeth are also extracted when they interfere with normal tooth development or atypical biting patterns that have to be corrected with braces.

General Dentistry
Dr. Anupama was born and raised in India where she completed her Bachelor of Dental Surgery Degree. After moving to the United States, Dr. Anu earned her D.D.S. in 2007 from the University of California, San Francisco. She also obtained a certificate in Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) from University of the Pacific. She did her Pediatric Residency Program at NYU Langone Medical Center in Tampa, Florida. Additionally, she is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.
