David H. Broide, MBChB, is a board-certified allergist/immunologist who specializes in diagnosing and treating asthma, sinus and eye allergies, life-threatening allergic reactions (anaphylaxis), food allergy, medication allergy, and immune disorders contributing to recurrent sinus infections and pneumonia. His expertise includes allergen immunotherapy (also known as allergy shots") and performing skin tests to diagnose allergy. As a professor of medicine, Dr. Broide is active in teaching medical students and lectures on asthma and immunology. His research program at UC San Diego Health has been continuously funded by National Institutes of Health (NIH) since 1987 and has made significant contributions to understanding allergic inflammation, as well as airway inflammation and remodeling in asthma.Dr. Broide is extensively published; his articles have appeared in the New England Journal of Medicine, The Journal of Allergy Clinical Immunology, and The Journal of Clinical Investigation, among others. He has served on editorial boards for numerous journals and is as an ad-hoc manuscript reviewer for many medical publications. Dr. Broide frequently speaks at academic institutions and at conferences for both national and international medical societies.He earned his medical degree from University of Cape Town in South Africa. Dr. Broide completed his internal medicine residency training at Brigham and Women's Hospital/Waltham hospital program, a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School. He is board-certified in allergy and immunology and internal medicine.Dr. Broide is a fellow of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology.
