General Info
Water services The West Knox Utility District (WKUD) was created under the authority of Title 7, Chapter 82 of the Utility District Law of the State of Tennessee and began operating on October 18, 1954. The purpose of the District is to "acquire, construct, improve, extend, operate and maintain a water and wastewater system." The District's service area of seventy-two square miles is bordered on the east by the City of Knoxville, on the south by Interstate Highways 40 and 75, and on the north and west by Anderson and Loudon counties, respectively. The north and west boundaries are formed by Melton Hill Lake, created by the impoundment of the Clinch River by the Melton Hill Dam. Today WKUD serves over 25,000 water and 20,000 wastewater customers in one of the fastest growing counties in Tennessee.
