Knox County Nursing Home

This place may not look as fancy as the for-profit facilities, but it has many good points. (1) Most important, its CMS (govt.) rating is 5 out of 5, exceeding some of the for-profits in the area. (2) Staff is attentive and kind to my mom and other residents. Nursing supervisor gave us her cell phone number and told us to call anytime, whether she is on duty or not. Staff always has time to answer questions when family calls or visits. (3) Affordable versus for-profit facilities in the area. (4) Very flexible visiting hours -- from 8 am until 8 pm. (5) Allows pets, and has a resident dog and two resident cats in the Alzheimer's unit. (6) Beautifully landscaped and residents can safely be outside in the fenced courtyards. (7) Offers many daily activities. You may be turned off by the dull-looking rooms, but you can decorate as you wish and can turn them into cozy rooms with little effort. Given that we have family and friends visiting 7 days a week, I believe they could spot problems, and they haven't seen any.
