Diebel's Sportmen's Gallery

I had seen an ad on craigslist for a Sales Associate position at Diebel's and replied with my resume. As a woman, I thought I may not get a call back because the store seemed to be run by men. I was fine with this, but wanted to at least give it a shot as I loved shopping for gifts for the men in my life there and it seemed like a nice place. Mr. Curt Diebel called me back the following day and let me know he was impressed with my resume and that he wanted to have me in to interview for a completely different position. He wanted to talk to me about a Visual Merchandising position at his store. I have experience in this field and was very excited because this position had not even been advertised, but he said he needed help in that area of business.



I went into the interview after I had already told Mr. Diebel I worked at another outdoor/outfitter store on the Plaza part time, but had developed my visual merchandising skills and would love to help out if I could. He was so sweet in the interview and even offered me a dollar more than my highest expectation. He said not to worry, but the potential for a full time job was available if part time worked out. I was going to help him open his new store in Leawood, KS. I was so happy after telling him I would be happy to accept the position. I told him that I would get my schedule to him and that my manager at my other job had promised to work with me on scheduling for Diebel's so that there would be no conflicts. I did let him know that the schedule posted was posted prior to my manager's knowledge of my being hired at Diebel's and that the following week would not be so difficult to schedule.There seemed to be no problem here as he still offered me the job and the interview went perfect. I filled out the rest of my application and brought it in the following day along with my previously scheduled hours for this week at my other job.



I received a call from Mr. Diebel on my lunch break the following day and I told him I was excited to start and asked if he thought he would be able to schedule me at all this week even though the schedule from my other job was one that had been planned without a second job in mind. He said: I'm sorry. I don't think this will work out after looking at this schedule from your other job. I don't think we will be using you after all. Needless to say, I tried to explain yet again that the schedule of hours I had given to him had been scheduled without any knowledge on my manager's behalf of my interest at working at Diebel's and that the following week would be easier to follow. He did not seem to care and said he was not going to play second fiddle to another employer. My reaction was absolute devastation and I even asked him if he wanted me to put my two weeks in at my current place if it would appease him, but it was not good enough for him,. He told me he was going to spread the hours among the guys. Why offer the job to me in the first place?! Nobody deserves that treatment.

Good selection of cigars but the staff is very snobby and was no help. I would avoid at all costs. Prices seemed very high compared to area stores.

They have been business along time. And it looks like it. Lot's of gift accessories for men. Good selection of cigars, but it seems that cigars are second to the gifts.
