Do NOT have your baby here! ...

Do NOT have your baby here!

Prenatal care is excellent but the delivery room (I had two back to back pregnancies) was a nightmare. First one wasn't as bad. I had a latex allergy on my chart and my husband said he saw one of the nurses put on latex gloves (so no one bothered to read my chart). So not to big of a deal there.

Second delivery was the worst experience of my life! The first nurse was great, very nice and answered any of my questions BUT as I was gestationally diabetic, and they were trying to induce this labor I felt very sick at one point and asked to be tested to see where my level fell. She came in tested me and then didn't say anything so I got irritated and nearly snapped, "Well, what IS it?" And she told me "52". I freaked out because that was WAY low and the nurse said that that wasn't typical of a diabetic and I got even more irritated because that's why I told her in the first place to check me every couple of hours because if I don't eat (and you can't when you're inducing labor) my blood sugar plummets. So she got me some sugar water for my IV and started feeling better.

Shift change came and the new nurse was HORRIBLE! Every joke I tried to make she corrected me on medically or brushed off. If I asked a question she would often ignore me and keep walking away. She was rude to me on a number of occasions and even my husband was about to step in and say something but I encouraged him to bite his tongue for fear of making my treatment (from her) worse and my labor was long enough already. So toward the end, when i was about to deliver (and she knew this wasn't my first baby) I told her the baby's coming and she says in this airy, flippant way, "No it isn't!" AND WALKS AWAY! My husband I both dropped our jaws. Then I started to scream and she rushes over. I asked what she was doing and again told her the baby was coming. She said "Well I have to check you. Oh-I see a head." Then rushes off for the nurse midwife and as she's getting the door she says from over her shoulder "Try not to push." At the point where I was at pushing was involuntary. The nurse midwife flew in and caught the baby not even having time to put on gloves. I heard a bang and someone swore and said "She hit the table". My daughter had a huge bruise on the side of her face and I thought they meant my daughter had struck the table but they said sometimes bruising can occur during fast deliveries. I highly doubt that only because of what soon followed.

So after the delivery, the same awful nurse kept coming in and squishing my guts way too hard (or maybe it was because my muscles were so weak from back to back pregnancies but I don't remember it hurting as bad the first time). Every 15 mins for an hour she did this and all I wanted to do was EAT SOMETHING. So finally I started eating my cold fast food and figured I'd just puke on her when she came back if she pushed too hard. Then when I asked to use the bathroom she insisted on going with me (though I would've had anyone else but her company) and when I got to the toilet she left the door to the bathroom wide open! So anyone in the room could watch me if they wanted to.

After we got home a couple days later, I contacted the labor and delivery manager and complained about the nurse and my awful experience there. She encouraged me to not give up on Bronson and that it really was a great place to have a baby.

one month later I received a letter (via certified mail) claiming I had been BANNED from the practice due to a "patient/physician breakdown" so I can never be seen at Bronson Women's Service for the rest of my life!

Do NOT have your baby here. If you can, go somewhere else. You'll be happier and far better off in the long run.

Overall
Area's BEST!

I have, unfortunately, needed hospital care on an emergency basis for a heart condition several times. But fortunately, we have Bronson! From the circle drive (where a guard comes out to assist) through the Emergency Department, things are done right and efficiently. When I have been admitted, I was amazed at what I found. Every patient gets a private room, outstanding nursing care and (no kidding) order-off-the-menu room service. Can you imagine LIKING hospital food.

From the nurses to the techs. to housekeeping, emphasis was always on prompt friendly service. The quality of the medical services was top rate. No wonder Bronson is nationally recognized!
