        Island Foot and Ankle Specialists welcomed Dr. Douglas Birch to the island in November of 2003. Dr. Birch was attracted to the multicultural nature of Maui, having traveled the world extensively. He was born in Saudi Arabia and lived in the United States, Argentina, Brazil and the Philippines. He loved the diverse cultures and people wherever he lived. He felt that Maui offered such a wonderful blend of many cultures all in a small geographical location. Dr. Birch lives in Maui with his wife, Kristen, and their five children. He has come to love the people here and has been actively involved in the community. He has been or is currently involved with organizations such as American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association, Rotary Club, Boy Scouts of America and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). His undergraduate education was primarily at Arizona State University. He graduated from the California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco, California, with a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (D.P.M.) degree. He also completed two residency programs at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton, New York and at Montgomery Hospital Medical Center in Norristown, Pennsylvania. Dr. Birch works from his private practice in Kahului and is on the surgical staff at Kula Hospital, Maui Memorial Hospital and Aloha Surgical Center. He specializes in nearly all foot related problems, including wound care, limb salvage, sports medicine, foot trauma and diabetes related complications. Dr. Birch believes that your feet deserve MEDICAL EXCELLENCE and COMPASSIONATE CARE!

        I AM A PATIENT OF DR. BIRCH. HE TREATED ME FOR A Bunion ON MY RIGHT FOOT IN NOVEMBER OF 2009. MY FOOT PROBLEM BOTHERED ME FOR AT LEAST 25 YEARS. I AM A HAIRDRESSER FOR 32 YEARS, AND A CONDITION LIKE THIS MADE MY WORK NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE TO ENDURE DAILY. MY VISIT TO DR. BIRCH WAS THE BEST DECISION I MADE IN 2 DECADES. HIS STAFF WAS VERY PROFESSIONAL AND ALWAYS CHEERFUL. THEY TREATED ME LIKE I WAS FAMILY. DR. BIRCH IS A WONDERFUL DR. THE SURGERY HE PREFORMED WENT VEY WELL. EVERY THING HE TOLD ME TO EXPECT FORM SURGERY WENT EXACTLY AS HE SAID IT WOULD. IN LESS THAN 3 MONTHS I WAS ABLE TO GET AROUND WITH NO PROBLEM. NOT ONLY DID I FIND DR. BIRCH VERY SKILLED, BUT HE IS THE SWEETEST MOST CARING DR. I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED. HE CARES NOT ONLY ABOUT YOUR FEET BUT ALSO ABOUT THE PERSON HE IS CARING FOR. DR.
