Our firm’s founder, Herbert L. Faulkner, was born in 1882 in Nova Scotia. He arrived in Alaska in 1902 and soon became the Chief of Police for the City of Ketchikan. Mr. Faulkner came to Juneau in 1907 as a Deputy United States Marshal. In 1909, President Taft appointed him U.S. Marshal for the First Judicial District of the Territory of Alaska. One of the most well-known of his acts as Marshal was his arrest on a charge of murder of Robert Stroud, later known as the “Birdman of Alcatraz”. Mr. Faulkner was admitted to the Alaska Bar in 1914. He practiced law in Juneau for 35 years, made a token effort to retire in California, but continued to practice law there and in Alaska literally until the day of his death at age 89, when he suffered a heart attack in the court room.
BethAnn Boudah Chapman (“Beth”) has practiced law in Juneau for over 30 years in the areas of estate planning, probate, trust law, and business law. She is an elected fellow and former state chair of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel ( www.actec.org ), holds an “AV” rating from Martindale Hubbell Law Directory and is listed in Super Lawyers. Beth received her BA from Saint Michael’s College and her JD from the University of Oregon School of Law and was inducted into the Order of the Coif.

We also have an active practice in estate planning, probate and trust matters and represent individuals and corporations in real estate, employment and business transactions.
Mr. Vance joined Faulkner Banfield, P.C. in 1983, following a clerkship with Judge James Barrett of the United States Court of Appeals, Tenth Circuit. Mr. Vance focuses his practice on complex litigation, particularly in the areas of oil and gas tax and royalties, natural resources law, and defense of products liability, personal injury and professional malpractice claims. Chris is a member of the executive committee of the Alaska Bar Association’s Estate Planning Section. He has presented on Alaska’s Elective Community Property Act at the estate law spring symposium and the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. He speaks for community organizations throughout Southeast Alaska on the topics of estate planning and planned giving.
