After working with the physicians of Watauga Orthopaedics while in medical school, Dr. Parks returned to the Tri-Cities and joined the practice in 2009. Board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine with a CAQ in Sports Medicine, Dr. Parks is dedicated to the nonsurgical treatment of orthopaedic conditions such as acute injuries, osteoarthritis, and fractures. Much of his practice is focused on the treatment of overuse conditions of tendons such as the rotator cuff, tennis elbow, patella and achilles tendons, and plantar fascia. He specializes in the use of musculoskeletal ultrasound for diagnostic and in-office interventional care, as well as the use of regenerative treatments, such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, for overuse and chronic musculoskeletal conditions.
MRI
A call to Watauga Orthopaedics started a speedy road to recovery--an initial assessment, an MRI, surgery... all within three weeks, all faster than a 5k! Dr. Bob De Troye (also a runner) was my guide and surgeon through the whole process. The diagnosis? A significant cartilage lesion under the knee cap. The solution – a micro-fracture procedure to re-grow some cartilage from my bone-marrow stem cells.

Dr. Robert DeTroye grew up in Wisconsin and received his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine in 1986. He completed both his general surgery internship and orthopaedic surgery residency at the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo.

Board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, Dr. France enjoys the practice of general orthopedics, as it allows him to see patients of all ages and activity levels. He is committed to the people of the Tri-Cities and has served in many areas throughout his career, including the Boys & Girls Club, Providence Medical Clinic, and Sullivan South football team physician. Dr. France is married to his wife, Vandi, and they have two daughters, Madeline and Kate. When he is not working, you can find him spending time with his family.

Dr. Jonathan Bryant received his undergraduate degree in exercise science from James Madison University in 2010. He then attended Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, Virginia, before completing an orthopedic residency at East Tennessee State University. After residency, Dr. Bryant completed a 1-year fellowship in sports medicine and arthroscopy at Orthopaedic Research of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia. While there, he specialized in various surgeries ranging from minimally invasive arthroscopic procedures of the shoulder and knee and arthroplasty procedures of the shoulder, hip, and knee.
Ankle Surgery
Dr. Parker Duncan, originally from Johnson City, received his undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Memphis in Memphis, Tennessee. He remained in Memphis for his post-graduate training, receiving his medical degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and then completing his orthopedic surgical residency at the renowned Campbell Clinic. After residency, he completed a 1-year fellowship in foot and ankle surgery at The Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colorado.
Joint Replacement

Dr. Aiken completed an AO/ASIF fellowship in hand surgery and trauma with Dr. Ueli Buchler at Inselspital in Bern, Switzerland. He also spent time studying in Edinburg, Scotland, and New Castle, England.

After completing his undergraduate studies from Rhodes College in Memphis with honors, Dr. Gregory Stewart earned his medical degree from Vanderbilt University Medical School in 1998. He completed a five-year orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, followed by an AO Fellowship with Dr. Bruno Noesberger at Regionalspital in Interlaken, Switzerland.

Hip Replacement
Sandra Dunn from Greeneville, TN had pain on her right side for almost two years. It took doctors a while to figure out what the case was, and various conservative treatments were not helping. Dr. Marc Aiken determined it was her hip, and she would need a total hip replacement. It made a world of difference to Sandra! "It was a big relief not to hurt every time I moved," she comments. Knee Replacement
Our doctors may perform a partial knee replacement for patients who have arthritis on only one surface of the knee. In this procedure, only the damaged surface of the knee joint is replaced rather than the entire joint, which minimizes trauma to healthy bone and tissue.
Reconstructive Surgery
Dr. Wells joined Watauga Orthopaedics in July 2008. Board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, he has a special interest in reconstructive surgery of the shoulder and knee. He performs arthroscopic repair of rotator cuff and labrum injuries in the shoulder, as well as shoulder replacement and resurfacing procedures. In the knee, Dr. Wells does ligament reconstructions and meniscal repair, as well as knee replacements and cartilage work.

Born and raised in Nashville, Dr. Michael Wells remained local to earn his bachelor’s degree from Lipscomb University, where he played baseball for the Bisons. He received his medical degree from East Tennessee State University’s Quillen College of Medicine. Following a five-year orthopaedic surgical residency at the University of Mississippi, he completed a one-year sports medicine fellowship at the Ohio Center of Orthopaedic Excellence in Columbus.

Between 1995-2014, Alvin has worked as a licensed practical nurse, physical therapy technician, and physician assistant, and he has been employed at Johnson City Medical Center, Appalachian Orthopaedic Associates, Greeneville Orthopaedics, and even Watauga Orthopaedics from 2004-2008.
