The Missouri Department of Higher Education carries out administrative responsibilities for the state s higher education system. The department evaluates the performances of students and institutions. It also administrates statewide postsecondary technical education and proprietary school certification programs. The Missouri Department of Higher Education submits a unified budget request for public higher education to the state s governor and the Missouri General Assembly. The department additionally establishes guidelines to promote the transfer of students among institutions. It is responsible for the approval of new degree programs that are offered by public colleges and universities. In addition, the department is comprised of several groups, including information technology, academic affairs, fiscal affairs and operations, and financial assistance, outreach and proprietary certification. The Missouri Department of Higher Education has administered more than $70 million in state-based financial assistance to over 35,000 students.
