If you want to dine at a unique Mexican food restaurant in Jacksonville, TX, La Fonda del Sol on West Hwy. 79 is worth a visit. That being said, it is not for everyone as the building and tables are, at best, basic, so, I will focus on the positives. Everything is cooked fresh including the extensive breakfast menu My favorite evening entrees are the ancho red chile pork dish and the chicken fried steak and, of course, the fajitas. Excellent fried catfish is served Friday evenings Ask Mario for his suggestions. My "review" is rather poorly written so you have to try it yourself to understand why it is so popular. It is closed afternoons.
