Primary Care
Dr. Mileski received her undergraduate degree in Biology at the Florida State University. She obtained her optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University, followed by her residency training in Neuro-Ophthalmic Disease from Salus University. Dr. Mileski stayed on at Salus University as an Instructor and taught optometry students in multiple courses including Neuro-Ophthalmic Disease, Neuro-Anatomy, Head & Neck Anatomy and Clinical Skills in addition to seeing patients in both the Primary Care and Neuro-Ophthalmic Disease clinics. Dr. Mileski relocated to the Atlanta area and joined the Emory Eye Center faculty in 2018. She worked on the hospital consultation service and saw a wide range of patients with a focus on ocular disease and neuro-ophthalmic disease. Dr. Mileski then transitioned to private practice where she continued to enhance her skills in the community setting. Dr. Mileski’s unique training allows her to provide specialty eye care services to patients with complex medical issues and symptoms in addition to routine eye care services. Recently, Dr. Mileski moved back to the Jacksonville area, which allows her to be closer to her family.

Ophthalmology
Dr. Sushma K. Vance graduated with distinction from the University of Michigan in biology and anthropology and received her medical degree and ophthalmology residency training at Northeast Ohio Medical University. While in residency, Dr. Vance authored and secured several research and community service grants. She was also awarded the William H. Falor award for best resident research.
Macular Degeneration
FAF is an effective method of detecting early signs of retinal disease and can be used as a diagnostic or monitoring tool for hereditary conditions such as Best’s and Stargardt’s disease. It has also been shown to detect early stages of Macular Degeneration.
Laser Eye Surgery
People who are considering laser vision correction procedures such as LASIK also might be pre-treated with corneal cross-linking to strengthen the eye’s surface before undergoing an excimer laser ablation that reshapes the cornea.
Cataracts
A normal part of the aging process, a cataract is a clouding of the natural lens in the eye that dims or blurs vision, often causing glare or halo around lights at night and difficulty seeing or reading in low light. If your sight becomes too poor to carry on normal activities, the solution is to surgically remove the clouded lens and replace it with an artificial lens or IOL (intraocular lens).
Cataract Surgery
Studies have shown that less than 10% of manual incisions have been able to achieve the same accuracy that is produced with laser cataract surgery.
Eye Exam
During a low vision evaluation at Atlantic Eye Institute, Dr. Danielle Callegari will work with each patient to identify treatment options, which may include optical devices, techniques that will help utilize remaining vision, and/or environmental modifications to maximize remaining vision. Dr. Callegari may administer a variety of tests to help her determine the needs and severity of each patient. These tests are often more time consuming than a standard eye exam, and the initial evaluation may take up to 1 hour. Many ocular diseases vary widely in the type of visual loss that may occur and requires an assessment that goes beyond the scope of a traditional medical eye exam. A complete evaluation of your optical needs will be assessed and discussed.

Dr. Diaz holds a Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine and completed her internship in internal medicine and residency in ophthalmology at the University of Florida in Jacksonville. She also served as chief resident of Ophthalmology at the University of Florida.

Diabetic Retinopathy
Diabetic Retinopathy is a complication of diabetes which causes abnormalities in the tiny blood vessels nourishing the retina. These vessels weaken, leak fluid and blood, and fail to provide nutrients necessary for good retinal health. Left untreated, diabetic retinopathy can result in a severe visual loss, including blindness. Diabetic retinopathy can take two forms, non-proliferative retinopathy and proliferative retinopathy.

Ultrasound
Before the surgery, you will receive medication to help you relax and ensure that you feel no pain. The eye area will be cleaned and draped, and your lids will be positioned open, so you don’t have to worry about blinking. During traditional cataract surgery, a tiny, self-healing incision is made on the edge of the cornea using a blade, and a tiny probe is inserted into the eye. The probe emits ultrasound waves that soften and break up the lens into little pieces so it can be suctioned out. After the cataract is removed, your surgeon will insert the new lens where it gently folds into place. You will spend a few minutes in recovery before going home with a shield over your eye to protect it from accidental rubbing or bumping. Most patients can drive and resume normal activities the very next day.
