Family Practice
Dr. Sarkar began practicing nephrology in 1983 in India and subsequently served as the sole nephrologist in Bhutan. In the United States, he has served as the medical director for four dialysis units and as a faculty member for the University of Tennessee Family Practice Residency Program. In 1998, Dr. Sarkar began a successful solo nephrology practice in Jackson, TN that continues to expand. In addition to his primary office in Jackson, TN, he sees patients at satellite clinics in Bolivar, Lexington, and Humboldt, TN. Dr. Sarkar strongly believes in evidence based practice and continuing education. He is actively involved in clinical research and has served as the Principle Investigator for three research projects. Dr. Sarkar is a member of the American College of Physicians, National Kidney Foundation, American Medical Association, American Assoication of Indian Physicians, International Society of Peritoneal Diaysis, and Renal Physician's Association.

Internal Medicine
Dr. Shyamal Sarkar is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Nephrology. He graduated from North Bengal Medical College in India in 1981. He earned a post-graduate diploma in cardiology in 1984 and completed a cardiology fellowship in 1985 at the Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research in Calcutta, India. He obtained board certification in Internal Medicine in 1985. Dr. Sarkar has practiced Internal Medicine in India, Bhutan, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Nephrology
"I graduated from medical school in 1981 and in the pursuit of excellence have practiced and trained in different capacities in medicine over the last 26 years in different countries. I am very interested in Internal Medicine but for my desire to know more I have done sub-specialization in Cardiology and Nephrology. I have a very successful practice with the main base of practice in Jackson and the surrounding counties. I strongly believe in continued education, preventative medicine and clinical research."
