Oral Surgery
The removal of the lingual frenum, which is under the tongue, is called a lingual frenectomy. A lingual frenectomy is often performed for patients who are â€œtongue-tiedâ€ . Immediately after this minor oral surgery, the tongue has increased mobility and can extend out of the mouth. This procedure can help improve speech and promote proper tooth arch development in growing children.
Gum Surgery
The pinhole surgical technique is recommended when there is a band of gum tissue, but the gum has pulled away from the tooth. This can cause tooth sensitivity, an unesthetic smile and sometimes the loss of the tooth. The Pinhole Surgical Technique is the latest treatment available for gum recession. Osseous Surgery
Pocket reduction can be successfully accomplished through a procedure known as osseous surgery. During this periodontal procedure, the pockets are eliminated or reduced by removing gum tissue and reshaping uneven bone. Tooth Extractions
When a tooth is removed, sometimes there is an inadequate amount of bone where the tooth use to be (the tooth socket). A socket bone graft can be done to correct this problem. A socket bone graft or socket preservation graft is a type of bone graft that is done in the extraction socket of a tooth. After a tooth is removed, the socket will not always maintain its shape, but can shrink and collapse. A socket graft provides more bone than what you would otherwise would have after the socket heals for about 4 months. It prevents the shrinking of bone as the area heals and maintains the height and width of bone in the area where the tooth use to be.
Ridge Augmentation
A ridge is an area in the mouth where teeth have been removed. Different ridges have different shapes and sizes. Some ridges are thin and flat, while others are thick and tall. When teeth are removed and a socket preservation graft is not performed, sometimes the area where the teeth were present will collapse and shrink as it heals resulting in a very small, narrow ridge. A ridge augmentation procedure can be completed to increase the thickness and height of bone in this area. With the proper thickness and height of bone, dental implants can be placed. Dental implants cannot be placed unless there is enough bone height and thickness. Bone grafts purchased from a tissue bank or synthetic bone can be used with a special membrane. The area heals for about 6-9 months. Implants are then placed.
