Service 23 Restaurant Consult

We initially hired Tara and then fired her quickly and got our money back once we realized a couple of things. First of all, she wanted to create our restaurant/bar based on what she wanted. Any good business owner needs to have their own vision. They shouldn't be executing someone else's vision. Tara refused to accept input from us as the owners. How crazy does that sound. Secondly, anything she did could have been very easily done by a few clicks on the internet. We received some very scrappy emails and spreadsheets from her that were supposed to be helpful. I would absolutely not hire this firm. She talks a good talk but it is unclear whether she has the necessary experience to run a restaurant much less a consulting firm for that matter. In a matter of just a couple of weeks we were able to get all of the guidance we needed from books, the internet and government agencies. There is a wealth of information out there. You must do your homework. There is no shortcut by hiring a supposed expert to do the homework for you. Our restaurant is doing extraordinarily well but if I ever had to hire a consultant again, I would still consider it but I would do more background research. In fact rather than listening to all of these reviews, I recommend that you to look up Tara's background and simply judge for yourself.

Fair/nothing special got no special insight that I already didn't know or have, being in the biz for only a couple of years myself.

If you want something done right you have to do it yourself-unless you want the extra work of having to fix what Service 23 will do for you. I should have taken into consideration the fact that she has never had any hotel/restaurant management classes/courses or for that matter background--just waiting tables for 14 years. She didn't take the problems of the restaurant into her own hands and solve them instead she asked us what to do or what she should be doing. What is the point and where is the help that was supposed to be provided. She talks a good talk but when thrown into it she drowned. Again, you want something done right do it yourself or find someone in the field that knows the business inside and out because they worked in all aspects of it not just serving tables for years and have some over the top dream they can not live out.
