On April 14, 2005, Congress passed the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005 (S.256), also known as the Bankruptcy Reform Act (or the Act), which amended Title 11 of the United States Code. On April 20, 2005, President Bush signed the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005 into law which addresses many areas of Bankruptcy including Consumer Bankruptcy filings, Commercial Bankruptcy filings, and Chapter 12 family farmer reorganization.
