        The First Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church was founded by Reverend J. E. Coleman on August 16, 1963. The first location of the church was 4205 Galesburg Street. On January 9, 1999, the Lord called Pastor James E. Coleman home to rest from all of his labor. Even though he has moved from this earth, his memory lives on. On June 13, 1999 the First Elizabeth family elected Reverend W. D. Yancy, Sr. as their pastor. His first official day was on Father's Day, June 20, 1999. Pastor Yancy has done great works during the past nine years. He is dedicated to teaching and preaching God's divine word. He previously taught a series of lessons in Bible Study titled "Getting to Where God Wants Us to Be." He constantly emphasizes that it is all about Jesus and we must do the Master's will. He will continue to lead the family of God to higher heights, as he follows the vision that God has given him.
