Dental implants are metal cylinders that are inserted into the jawbone to replace the root portion of a missing tooth or teeth. These metal root replacements are then used to support dental crowns (caps), bridges or dentures. Dental implants are constructed from a metal known as titanium. This material is biocompatible, meaning the body does not reject it. Accepted by the American Dental Association, dental implants have been successfully used for many years.
Bridges

Root Canal Treatment
An apicoectomy is a surgical procedure used to remove infection from the bone surrounding the root of your tooth. This procedure is performed to prevent extraction of the affected tooth. Typically, the tooth involved has had previous root canal treatment. Patients often complain of soreness and drainage in this area, and multiple attempts at antibiotic treatments fail. Because infection is present, the surgery is most appropriately performed under an intravenous anesthetic.
Apicoectomy

Dentures
Dental implant surgery is performed in our office under an intravenous and/or local anesthetic. For most patients, implant surgery is performed in two steps. The first step is the actual placement of the implant into your jaw. This surgical procedure takes less than one hour, and usually causes only minor post-operative discomfort. We then wait three months for the implant to heal and adhere to your bone. During this time, you may wear any dentures or bridgework you may have. The second step involves removing the gum tissue that covers the implant. This simple exposure procedure is performed with a local anesthetic. Upon exposure of your implant, you need to return to your dentist to have your new crown, bridge or denture constructed. Drs. Dachille, Laing and Paladino will discuss these surgical procedures with you, and by reviewing various implant charts and models, will allow you to easily understand your implant surgery.

Dental Implants
Drs. Dachille, Laing and Paladino will perform an oral and x-ray examination to determine if you have enough bone to secure the implant. Also, they will review your medical history. Other than a few rare conditions, most patients are medically acceptable to have implant surgery. Importantly, there is no age restriction regarding implant surgery. In fact, most of our implant patients are advanced in years.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral Surgery
Bleeding: A small amount of bleeding is to be expected following oral surgery. Keep mouth closed tightly on gauze for about an hour, until bleeding stops. It may require biting on gauze for several hours to stop the bleeding. Be certain the gauze pack is thick enough to allow firm pressure when biting down. Repeat this procedure as necessary, making sure to use new gauze every hour. Oozing may continue for 12 to 24 hours after surgery.
Jaw Surgery
Orthognathic surgery or “jaw surgery” is needed when the upper and lower jaws do not meet properly. Sometimes the problem is with the lower jaw, other times it is with the upper jaw. One or another jaw may protrude or recess abnormally out of alignment. Occasionally, both jaws are affected. The goal of this surgery is to align the jaws and teeth into their ideal position. The benefits include an improved ability to chew, speak and breathe, and in many cases an enhanced appearance can result.
Maxillofacial Surgery
Dr. Dachille was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. He graduated from Washington and Jefferson College and obtained his graduate degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. He completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at the Case Western Reserve University/ University Hospitals of Cleveland.
Tooth Extractions
The most common procedure performed in our office is the extraction of teeth. This is typically done when teeth are acute or chronically infected and all other types of treatment have failed. Also, teeth are removed to relieve dental crowding which is often required with orthodontic treatment. Dental extractions can be performed using local or intravenous anesthetic. Drs. Dachille, Laing and Paladino will assess the complexity of your extraction and make an anesthesia recommendation.
Bone Grafting
When a patient looses a tooth or teeth, the supporting jaw -bone may shrink and decrease in density. The treatment for this is a bone graft to provide support and improve the function and appearance of the area. The bone graft materials utilized are very safe and effective. The surgical procedure is minimally invasive and can be performed under a local or intravenous anesthetic. Drs. Dachille, Laing and Paladino will discuss the various types of bone grafts at your consultation appointment.

Orthodontics
Patients with an improper bite that cannot be corrected with orthodontics (braces) alone, benefit most often from this surgery. Causes of improperly positioned jaws include birth defects, trauma, growth disturbances and oral pathology.
Braces
Performing a clinical and X-ray examination, Drs. Dachille, Laing and Paladino will identify the problem and offer possible solutions. Typically, an orthodontist is also involved in the diagnostic process. In fact, the majority of patients undergoing corrective jaw surgery have dental braces. The family dentist also plays an important role insuring the patients` mouth and teeth are in optimal health prior to the surgery. This team approach provides the best possible result.
