Renters Insurance
Under a homeowners or renters insurance policy, most companies provide limited coverage for property damage for small boats, such as canoes, and small sail boats or small power boats with less than 25-mile-per-hour horse power. Coverage may be around $1,000 on up to closer to 10% of the homeâ€™s property value and generally includes the boat, motor and trailer combined. Liability coverage is typically not includedâ€“but it can be added as an endorsement to a homeowners policy. Check with your Aloha Insurance representative to find out if your boat is covered and what the limits are. Jet skis and wave runners require a separate boat insurance policy. The size, type and value of the craft and the water in which you use it factor into how much you will pay for insurance coverage.
Home Insurance
The typical homeowners insurance policy covers the house, the garage and other structures on the property, as well as personal possessions inside the house such as furniture, appliances and clothing, against a wide variety of perils including windstorms, fire and theft. The extent of the perils covered depends on the type of policy. An all-risk policy offers the broadest coverage. This covers all perils except those specifically excluded in the policy.

Group life insurance is a type of life insurance in which a single contract covers an entire group of people. Typically, as the employer, the policy covers your employees or members of the group. Disability Insurance
The Hawaii Temporary Disability Insurance (TDI) law, enacted in 1969, requires employers to provide partial wage replacement insurance coverage to their eligible employees for non-work-related injury or sickness, including pregnancy. This means that if an employee is unable to work because of an off-the-job injury or sickness and the employee meets the qualifying conditions of the law, the disabled employee will be paid disability or sick leave benefits to partially replace the wages lost. TDI, however, does not include medical care.

Workers Compensation Insurance
Employee safety and well-being on the job should be important to you as their employer. However, accidents and illnesses can arise from being on the job.Â When they do, employees are covered under Workers Compensation law. The Hawaii WC law, enacted in 1915, provides wage loss compensation and medical care to those employees who suffer a work-related injury. The WC law in essence requires the employer to provide certain benefits without regard to the fault of the employer and prohibits an employee from filing civil action against the employer for work-related injury or illness. Any employer, other than those specifically excluded (section 386-1), having one or more employees, full-time or part-time, permanent or temporary, is required to provide WC coverage for its employees.
Commercial Liability Insurance
Employment practice liability insurance (EPLI) is specialized insurance designed to protect against loss incurred in litigating and settling wrongful employment practices liability claims. Itâ€™s typically structured as gap insurance for the company, providing protection against lawsuits such as discrimination, breach of contract and wrongful discharge suits, which usually are not covered by general business liability insurance. Directorsâ€™ and officersâ€™ liability insurance only protects the individual and not the company itself.Â EPLI is most commonly designed to fill this gap in coverage. It generally provides reimbursement for the costs incurred in defending a lawsuit but does not cover reimbursement for any penalties suffered.

Other coverages include medical payments for injuries to the boat owner. Boaters should also inquire about special equipment kept on the boat, such as fishing gear, to make sure it is covered, and verify that towing coverage is included in the policy. Boat owners should also inquire about discounts, including diesel-powered craft, coast guard-approved fire extinguishers, ship-to-shore radios, two years of claims-free experience, and multi-policies with the same insurer, such as a car, home or umbrella policy. Safety education courses, such as those offered by the Coast Guard Auxiliary, U.S. Power Squadrons and the American Red Cross, are recommended and may lead to a discount as well.
