Carolina Birth Center closed because the MD owner decided he wanted to. THE Midwives tried to purchase the practice, tried to relocate the practice and appealed to others in the area to maintain their services. Unfortunately this was to know avail. After they had provided services to the community since 1982, don't you think someone would have lended a hand. I know first hand how devastated the midwives were that the service was ending. I also know they tried to convince the owner to put an article in the paper, notifying the patients. This did not occur. THey let the current patients know and asked if they had friends or relatives that used their services to let them know. I do know that the director put her heart and soul in trying to keep it open. She is now practicing in Greensboro, because I still see her for my gyn care. Don;t blame the midwives, it was out of their hands. I cried with them when I was there.....
