Obesity is a common problem among pets, as it can be easy to over-feed a pet that knows how to beg. But being overweight is a serious problem for animals, and can cause real health problems as they get older. With proper diet and exercise, all pets should be able to meet their dietary needs and be within a healthy weight range.
Comprehensive Examination
Our staff will get a chance to talk to you and see if you are having any trouble with your pet. We will also go over diet, preventative medicine, and exercise to ensure that your pet is as healthy as possible. Then, one of our veterinarians will do a complete physical examination on your pet. It is always good to have a baseline in case your pet ever becomes ill. We also want to monitor your pet’s weight, ensuring that your pet stays a healthy weight. It is much easier to start a diet when a pet is a pound overweight instead of fifteen! Our veterinarian will also look for any potential problems. Our goal is to catch any problems before they become major ones. The sooner that we are able to catch a problem, the easier it is to treat it and the more likely that your pet will make a full recovery!

Jennifer has been a part of the Animal Medical Center team since 2008. She has 20 years of experience in the veterinary field. She loves having a career where she can share her knowledge and love for animals with others. Whether it be educating clients on the care of new puppies, facilitating transition into the senior years, or advocating for the animals while they are under our care in the hospital, Jennifer enjoys being able to work closely with our clients. She began her career in the veterinary field at the age of 16. She graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University in 2003 where she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science. She went on to continue her education at SFA, where she also earned a Master’s degree in General Agriculture with an emphasis on Animal Science and completed a thesis over the parvovirus and the immune response of puppies to commonly used vaccines. Jennifer, her husband, Michael, and their two children live on their family farm in Beckville, Texas, along with their two dogs and cows. Whether at home or at work, caring for animals is a way of life for Jennifer.

It’s caused by bacteria that accumulate in the mouth, forming soft plaque that later hardens into tartar. If untreated, periodontal disease can eventually lead to tooth loss. But there is a simple, safe, and effective way to ensure your pet’s safety and retrieval should they ever become lost. Microchipping is a standard procedure that implants a tiny chip underneath your pet’s fur. It is a painless and relatively fast procedure, and is completely safe. This microchip is registered with your pet’s vital information, and can be scanned by any veterinarian or animal shelter so that they can return your pet directly to you.

General Pet Care

Heather joined the Animal Medical Center team in 2012 and has completed her CVA I and CVA II certification. She and her husband Mark have five children, three German Shepherds a Pembroke Welsh Corgi and two cats. She is currently studying to complete the last level of CVA and RVT certifications. She majored in Associated Animal Science in high school and graduated as Valedictorian. This particular course focused on canine, feline, equine, rodent, aviary, bovine and porcine and the industries. She narrowed her study to the field of small animals specifically Canine Science. She continued her education by taking courses in Canine Behavior and Training at Mount Ida College, which focused on dog training and behavior. Over the years she has worked for breeders, groomers and spent several years managing stores and training at Petco. Before joining our team, Heather was the Director of Children’s Ministries at First United Methodist Church Carthage. Her family is still very active at the church. In her spare time she enjoys going to all of her children’s activities: watching Bulldog football, attending church activities, restoring furniture, working in the yard and playing with her dogs.
