Dr. Hanson earned his medical degree from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. He then completed his internship in internal medicine at Akron General Hospital and his orthopaedic surgery residency at Akron City Hospital in Ohio. Dr. Bergquist returns his family to Helena after a generation away. He is a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and a member of the Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He has performed research in carpal tunnel syndrome and wrist fractures.

He then completed his Orthopedic Surgery Residency Training at the University of Washington/Harborview Medical Center in Seattle and at Fellowship in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy in Taos, New Mexico. He has experience treating collegiate and professional athletes at the University of Washington and with the US Ski Team.
