I travel all over Texas. The name DIXIE would appeal to me as I am from the South and it would make me think, "Southern hospitality." After the treatment of the family, I will never eat there and will pass the word on to my fellow travelers. And they shouild change their name. Hospitable they are not!

I, for one, will never patronize this business

My family and I were just at the Hearne, Tx location for lunch at approximately 12pm on Sunday Feb 5, 2012. I had my service animal with me, she is a seizure response dog. She is a very small dog so I carry her in a bag so that she does not get stepped on or hurt. As we entered the cafe, my father told the hostess at the front that we had a service dog so as not to cause any problems with the staff. Shortly after we were seated a woman approached our table but did not introduce herself to us so at the moment I assumed it was a curious patron wanting to pet the dog, as I get a lot of these requests. A few seconds into the conversation I realized that she was working for the cafe, although she still had not officially made this know to us. She was very ugly with her words towards us. Saying that she knew her rights and that the dog had to be on the floor under the table. I had no problem with this request, it was her attitude and the fact that she still had not introduced herself as any type of employee or manager for that fact. Then she made the comment that she didn't know what type of "service" a poodle could provide anyway. Then I pointed out to her on the dogs bag where it is clearly labeled "seizure alert". I also pointed out the tag that I have on the bag with the dogs name and picture and my name and on the other side of the card are the American Disabilities Act rights, she was not interested in any of these items. My father suggested that we just leave, she said "Yea, why don't you"! We gathered our things and she escorted us out the door like we had done something wrong. It was at that time that she finally gave us her card that said Sharon Zeig but didn't say that she was a manager or anything of the sort. I told her that she had not heard the last of me and she said good I hope not. She was very rude and unprofessional for the entire confrontation. She showed her ignorance of service animals by making the statement of what type of service could a poodle provide anyway, when it was clearly marked all over the bag. Something needs to be done about this situation. My family and I were humiliated for no reason at all.
