Stinauer Family Dentistry is a family run business dedicated to serving your entire family with a wide variety of dental services. We pride ourselves on bringing big city amenities to the rural communities we are proud to support. All three offices are conveniently located 30 minutes apart allowing us to serve many communities in central Illinois. Patients have come to trust us for procedures such as root canals and tooth extractions that previously required a trip to Peoria or Springfield. Dental Examination
Following x-rays and your cleaning, your dentist concludes your first visit with a comprehensive exam. Our patients’ priorities always come first. We will address any concerns you may have and together we will come up with a treatment plan for your dental needs.
X-rays
Digital x-rays provide the most detailed images of your teeth allowing for the best diagnostic capability for the dentist. The sensors are smaller than ever making them more comfortable for the patients and the radiation is far less than traditional dental x-rays. We also have the capability to take panoramic x-rays to evaluate wisdom teeth.

Professional dental cleanings are an important part of your routine dental check-ups. Stinauer Family Dentistry recommends a cleaning and an exam every 6 months. It is our goal to make these appointments as comfortable as possible while catering to the specific needs of each patient. Learn more.

Dental Sealants
Brushing and flossing are the best way to help prevent cavities, but this can be a difficult task for children, especially on back teeth. Back teeth, known as molars, have uneven surfaces and deep grooves that harbor food debris and cavity-causing bacteria. Sealants are a type of filling material that is placed in the deep grooves of molars to create an environment that is much easier to keep clean. Around the age of 6, your child gets their first permanent molar. Once the permanent molar is fully erupted into the mouth is the best time to place a sealant. Sealants are recommended on 6 year and 12 year molars when they fully erupt. Other permanent teeth can also benefit from sealants, and even some adults can benefit greatly from sealants if their teeth are difficult to keep clean.

Crowns
A toothache occurs when the nerve of the tooth is breached by dental decay or if a tooth becomes necrotic (dead) resulting in an abscess. If there is enough tooth structure remaining, a root canal is indicated to save that tooth. The nerve is accessed, cleaned, and filled to prevent future infection. Following a root canal, a crown is placed over the tooth for protection.

Deep Cleaning
A deep cleaning is indicated for patients that suffer from moderate to severe gum disease. If left untreated, gum disease can lead to tooth loss, loss of supporting structure, and medical complications. If it has been a long time since having your teeth cleaned, it is important to first remove all of the tartar and plaque below the gum line. The dentist and the hygienist assess the degree of gum disease by measuring the supportive tissue around each tooth.

Dentures
Dentures should be removed every night and cleaned with a soft bristle, denture brush and non-abrasive denture cleaner. After cleaning, the denture can be soaked using an effervescent tablet. It is very important to give the soft tissues of the mouth the opportunity without the denture in place as you sleep to prevent infection and unnecessary sores. Routine dental exam s remain very important, even without teeth, to check the fit of your dentures and to screen for pathology, such as cancer.

Dental Implants
When a patient is missing multiple or all of their teeth, dentures can be a good option for tooth replacement. Partial dentures replace some missing teeth by relying on support from the remaining teeth in the arch while complete dentures replace all of the teeth in an arch. Implant dentistry has added tremendous new treatment options for patients missing teeth or already wearing dentures.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Tooth Extractions
Stinauer Family Dentistry completes simple, surgical, and wisdom tooth extractions at all three locations. When a tooth cannot be restored due to a severe crack, periodontal disease, or extensive tooth decay it needs to be carefully removed. Impacted wisdom teeth may require a referral to a trusted oral surgeons office.

Braces
There are countless options for toothbrushes and toothpastes on the market. The most important factor when selecting a toothbrush is choosing one with soft bristles. Stiff bristles can wear away enamel and cause gum recession. Using light intermittent pressure when brushing is also key. Typically, we see similar results between electric and manual brushes, but children and teenagers with braces can greatly benefit from an electric toothbrush.
