A cataract is a clouding of the eye’s naturally clear lens. The lens becomes like a window that is frosted or yellowed. To assist in the detection of cataracts, we perform a dilated eye exam. We recommend baseline exams at 40 years old, when early signs of disease and changes in vision may start to occur. Because your risk for cataracts and other eye diseases increases as you get older, starting at age 65 you should see us every year.

What To Expect At Your First Visit For all new patients, we ask that you please arrive 15 minutes early to complete any necessary paperwork. And don't worry, we understand visiting an eye doctor can be intimidating, especially if you haven’t been in a while. To make the most of your first visit, please remember to bring a list of the current concerns you need addressed, have your medical history information available, bring a copy of any current prescriptions and over-the-counter medication that you are currently taking, and bring your list of questions that you would like to cover. For eye exams, please bring your current glasses, sunglasses, and contact lenses if applicable. With this little bit of preparation, your first eye exam and evaluation will be simple and straightforward!
