Overall

I am disgusted by this place. Let me just tell a story as to why. My neighbors bought a mixed breed puppy for $400 (which is quite an expensive price for a mixed breed dog-- for those who know dogs) at the age of 6 weeks. 8 weeks is the LEGAL age to sell a dog, this puppy was sold at 6 weeks... Completely illegal. The poor puppy lost her mom at such an early age, which is my first problem. This puppy was sold to my neighbors, who are four broke college guys who smoke illegal substances in the house every day. The puppy was surrounded by smoke daily, which is not good for her health. Thankfully, at 8 weeks I was able to buy the puppy from the guys to get her out of such an environment. If Slyvias cared "so much" about their dogs that they are selling, they would've 1. Sold the dog at the legal age of 8 weeks 2. Would have done an interview on the owners to make sure it was a good environment the dog was going into.

I have heard many rumors of this place, but did not make any assumptions until I experienced it first hand the way I did.

Also, I had friends experience horrible situations to their puppies as well. One friend of mine bought a golden retriever and had hundreds of dollars of medical bills due to the health issues of the dog weeks after buying it. Thankfully Slyvias reinbursed her. Another friend of mine bought a golden retriever and the puppy died a week after purchasing the dog from Slyvias. Another friend of mine purchased a puppy from there at 7 weeks of age, still below the legal age.

All of those situations should show that this place does NOT care about their dogs. I will be calling animal services the minute I am back in Harrisonburg.

Overall

The last three times that I went to Sylvia's Pets to look at puppies I have received terrible customer service. The first two times I asked a man who works there for assistance, he basically refused to help me because he was too lazy to get the puppy out so that I could talk with him about the puppy and he wondered around the store and never asked me or any of the other customers if we needed any help. I kept going back hoping that I would find someone else working there so I could work with them and not this man because he was so unhelpful. When I went back the third time, there were two girls working with him, but I stood around waiting for them to ask me if I needed help for about twenty minutes and none of them bothered to ask me. When I finally approached them and asked for information on a puppy, they didn't know what kind of a puppy it was or how old it was and they just stood around having a conversation amongst themselves. This is purely terrible customer service, none of them were helpful at all, but especially the middle aged man. I will be getting a puppy soon, probably within the next few weeks once I find one, but I will NOT go back to Sylvia's Pets to get my puppy, and I will never go back to buy any toys, food, or other puppy items from this store. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt and went to them three times, but each time this man was totally unhelpful and not friendly or courteous at all. Just awful.

Overall

The pets there look and act severely depressed. Found out from an unhelpful employee that they apparently have two African Greys in the back room. It's disappointing how they treat their animals. They need to get their act together. Only one of their employees I talked to was helpful, but one employee can't do everything.
