Dr. Sam’s Eye Care is associated with the American Optometric Association’s InfantSEE program. InfantSEE makes free eye exams available to infants between the ages of 6 months and one year. Since most children never have an eye exam between birth and elementary school, an InfantSEE eye exam can catch certain vision challenges in their early stages. This allows for correction of the issue before it becomes a more serious problem.

Dr. Sam advises anyone diagnosed with diabetes to have a regular diabetic eye exam. The leading cause of blindness in American adults is diabetic retinopathy, which causes blood vessels in the eyes to swell and leak fluid. In other victims of diabetic retinopathy, abnormal blood vessels start to grow on the surface of the retina. Unfortunately, an individual with diabetic retinopathy may not notice any changes during the early stages. And diabetics are also at increased risk of catracts and glaucoma. MRI
Rechel comes to Dr. Sam’s Eye Care from Aroostook Medical Center, where she was Patient Coordinator in the MRI unit. Rechel likes a fast-paced environment, as well as working with patients in an office setting. She especially enjoys the familial nature and positive energy at Dr. Sam’s. Rechel’s favorite thing in life to look at is the ocean. And once again, it’s another “staff favorite” vote for the color green!
