Horseshoe Lake Campground

I feel we were very decieved by the pictures and description on the website. For $30/night for a site w/water and electric I was expecting the campground to be pretty posh and fixed up nicely. Instead it was run down and needed many updates and maintenance done for that amt of money to be charged per night. We have stayed at nicer campgrounds that even have swimming pools for less money per night. We have a 30 ft pull behind camper and the dumpstation is next to impossible to maneuver into. There was no water pressure in the hose there to clean anything out. The bathrooms were very run down and the toilets leaked poodles of water and were constantly low on toilet paper. The shower side of the bathrooms were very old with paint chipping, etc. None of the paddle boats were working that they had available to rent. We did rent a canoe but it was dirty with empty beer cans in it along with cigarette butts and the ores were old wooden ones that you had to be careful not to get splinters. For the amount of money per night and the way the website was pictured we were expecting a nice clean beach area and up-to-date bathrooms with adequete dumping station as described on the website. We were very disappointed.

This was the most pleasant vacation we have had in years. The campground is very clean and quite lovely. The Cabin we stayed in was the best, right on the lake. Hosts Joe and Kathy , and Kevin were the best! They went out of their way to make sure our stay was satisfying. The lake and cabins are better than pictured, A++++++ to this campground. My only regret is that we only stayed for 3 days. We will be back every year.

My grandchildren and I were kicked out of the cabin we rented because I complained about the bathroom being dirty. There was hair and soap scum in the shower, the toilet was brown with rust, and the floor had dirt on it. I didn't complain in a mean- spirited way. I told them the cabin was really cute and the rest of it was clean. Their regular cleaning lady was gone, but they had an on-site camper clean the cabin and she even said she didn't clean the shower. They didn't tell me they were kicking me out until 11 at night. They drove to the campfire I was sitting around with my family and told me to leave. I coudn't believe it. I asked Joe Pietro if it was because I complained and he said, I have my reasons. I told him that I had no where to go and he couldn't kick me out just for complaining. He said, I am the commander around here and I have been making the decisions for 41 years and I have decided that you will be leaving this campground. I told them I didn't know where to go and I had grandchildren with me. He said, Not my problem. He didn't even care that we had no where to go and that we were 7 hours from home. We ended up sleeping in the car. I am angry and shocked that we were mis-treated the way we were. It is unbelievable. They are not good for the community of Gwinn, MI. Be careful if you stay there. I'd hate to see it happen to anyone else.
