Emergency Care
Surgery done to correct the effects of trauma (a crooked nose, a deviated septum causing breathing problems) may be covered by your insurance. Typically, you will need documentation of the injury such as x-rays and notes from the emergency room or your physician documenting the injury. Operations performed to change the appearance of your nose are considered cosmetic and will not be covered by your insurance. If you desire cosmetic changes for your nose, but also have breathing problems related to a deviated septum, your insurance may cover the cost of the septoplasty.

Dr. James Lovett is a graduate of Columbia University Medical School and was elected into the Alpha-Omega-Alpha honor society. He completed his general surgery residency at Columbia Presbyterian medical Center in New York City and his Plastic Surgery training at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He is board certified in both Plastic and General Surgery, and he is a member of both the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the Southeastern Society of Plastic Surgeons. Dr. Lovett is Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
Ear Surgery
Prominent ears, ears that appear to stick out excessively, are the most common reason for surgery. Otoplasty, ear surgery to set the ears back closer to the scalp, is done to correct prominent ears for both men and women. Prominent ears can be a source of embarrassment and teasing from childhood on. This procedure can be done late childhood on through an incision hidden in the crease behind the ear. Protective ear compression is used for approximately 2 weeks and the recovery is quick and easy.

Brow Lift
Patients who have high hairlines, or significantly receding hairlines, may benefit from an open brow lift procedure. In this situation an incision is made along the hairline to allow access to the brow. Excess skin is removed and the muscles that cause frown lines are weakened. This results in brow elevation, elimination of wrinkles and can actually lower the hairline to a more normal position.
Eyelid Surgery
The gradual sagging of the eyebrows is responsible for many of the changes around the eye associated with aging. Brow ptosis, or sagging, creates excess upper eyelid skin, narrowing of the eye and a tired and angry appearance. A brow lift is a procedure that elevates the eyebrows back to their youthful position. This operation has an enormous impact on the face, giving it a much more youthful and rested appearance. With the aid of an endoscope, this operation can now be done through three small incisions hidden in the hair. The end result is elevation of the brow and reduction of the wrinkles commonly seen between the brows, in the central forehead and around the lateral eyes (crowâ€™s feet). This outpatient surgery can be done in the office surgical suite and the recovery time is approximately a week to ten days. This surgery is commonly done in conjunction with eyelid surgery or a facelift and eyelid surgery.
Liposuction
Liposuction of the chin and neck area is a surgical procedure designed to reduce the excess fat sitting underneath the chin area. The best candidates need to have good skin tone and minimal sun damage. The procedure requires less than a week of downtime with noticeable results right after surgery.

Breast Reduction
Breast reduction surgery is designed to decrease the size and weight of the breast, thereby alleviating these symptoms. When the breast is reduced, it is also lifted and the nipple restored to the front of the breast. Most scars are red initially, but fade to a fine white line over a period of months.
Breast Lift
Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty (nasal surgery) can be performed in the office surgery center, usually under general anesthesia. Surgeries involving significant alterations in the tip of the nose are usually done in an â€œopenâ€ fashion. Technically this means a small incision is made at the base of the thin divider between the nostrils. This allows the surgeon to see the structures he or she is working on directly, giving much greater precision and control. The surgery usually takes about two hours and recovery is ten days to two weeks depending on how extensive the surgery is. A splint is generally worn on the outside of the nose for one to two weeks and internal splints are used if work is done to improve breathing (septoplasty). The swelling typically lasts about a week and the bruising lasts two to three weeks.
Breast Reconstruction
Today, almost all patients with breast cancer are candidates for breast reconstruction. In most instances the reconstructive procedure is begun immediately following the mastectomy. This markedly reduces or eliminates the period of time during which the patient must live without a breast. Immediate reconstruction has repeatedly been shown to be safe and much better for the individualsâ€™ emotional well being. Your surgical oncologist and plastic surgeon will work together to design the best operation for you.

Thigh Lift
A thigh lift is a surgical procedure used to reshape the upper thigh. Good candidates include patients who have experienced weight loss, as well as those who have inherited their shape. The operation wild reduce excess skin and fat in the upper thigh resulting in a smoother and better proportioned contour. It can be safely combined with other cosmetic procedures. In the neck there is progressive softening of the jaw line and the development of loose skin and muscular bands beneath the chin. These changes are best corrected with a facelift.
Neck Lift
Chin enhancement is a frequently performed surgery that helps restore a harmonious appearance to the face. People who feel they have a weak or under-projecting chin can be treated by placement of a chin implant. Chin augmentation can also be a very useful adjunct to nasal surgery, helping to bring the nose into better proportion with the rest of the face. Chin augmentation can also be very helpful in neck lift procedures to tighten the skin and improve the definition between the neck and chin.
Blepharoplasty
Eyelid tuck or blepharoplasty is performed to eliminate a tired, aged look. This is done by removing excess skin and bulging fat restoring a more open youthful appearance to the eyes. For women this will allow much easier application of eye makeup by eliminating the over hanging skin. The scars are well hidden and the results are striking. These procedures are sometimes performed in conjunction with a brow lift to more harmoniously rejuvenate the entire upper third of the face.
Abdominoplasty
Liposuction is most appropriate for people who have mild to moderate amounts of excess fatty tissue, good muscle tone, and skin quality with few or no stretch marks. An abdominoplasty, on the other hand, is extremely effective at tightening the abdominal muscles, and eliminating excess fatty tissue, loose skin and stretch marks. Reversing the changes of the abdomen associated with pregnancy is best accomplished with a tummy tuck, and the procedure can be safely performed in conjunction with gynecologic or urologic surgery. Liposuction can be utilized during an abdominoplasty to provide additional contouring in the flanks or to address excess fatty tissue in the thigh region.

It can also alleviate the muscle spasms some patients may experience. This will help reduce the amount of muscle relaxants and pain medication you require. In addition, our massage therapists are experienced in scar massage which assists in minimizing the appearance of your surgical scars. A postoperative massage is suggested 7-10 days following your surgery.
