- The Grand Island Parks & Recreation Department works to provide recreational programs for residents, as well as maintains parks and facilities. The department maintains playgrounds, athletic fields and opens space. It organizes a variety of recreational programs for youths and adults. The department hosts various annual events that include snow sculpturing and photo contest, as well as Easter egg hunt. Additionally, it organizes events on Memorial Day, Independence Day and Veterans Day. The department hosts softball leagues, summer programs and soccer matches. The Grand Island Parks & Recreation Department runs youth sport clinics that provide lessons on rules and strategies, as well as basic beginning drills and skills of various games.
