It offers professional development, public fire and life safety education, operational support, and technical assistance and consulting services. The department s research services include data collection, analysis and information reporting. The Virginia Department of Fire Programs operates the communications, public affairs and public outreach office, which is responsible for communicating fire and emergency services information to the general population, members of the fire and emergency services community, as well as the media and local governments.
