If a chronic health condition or underlying condition may be causing your ED, further tests may need to be done. Blood tests and urine analysis can signal the cause of your erectile dysfunction. Occasionally an ultrasound will be performed to see blood flow.
MRI
Blood in the urine that is visible to the naked eye or gross hematuria is typically red, pink, or brown. To determine the cause of the blood in your urine, your doctor will do a physical exam, discuss your medical history, and conduct a urine analysis. If the cause cannot be identified from those, you may need imaging such as a CT or MRI or cystoscopy, a scope inserted into your urethra.

The first step to diagnosing kidney stones is to take a urine sample. Blood or mineral deposits in the urine signal kidney stones. Abdominal x-rays may reveal large kidney stones, while CT Scans reveal very small stones.

Minimally Invasive Surgery
Depending on patient factors such as age, general health, and the severity of symptoms, enlarged prostate may be treated with active surveillance, medication or minimally invasive surgery.
Vasectomy
Vasectomy, or male sterilization, is a minor surgery that blocks sperm from reaching the semen that is ejaculated from the penis. A vasectomy is a permanent way to prevent pregnancy. During a vasectomy, the vas deferens tubes are cut or blocked to prevent sperm from leaving the testicles. The sperm stay in the testicles and are naturally absorbed by the body. Vasectomies do not change the ability to ejaculate and they do not change anything about the semen.
Robotic Surgery
Using the robot, these arms are controlled by the surgeon from a computer console next to the patient. The surgeon is in complete control throughout the entire case; however, by utilizing the robot they get improved vision, fine motor control, and access to sometime difficult to reach anatomical locations. Robotic surgery has been shown to result in decreased pain and blood loss as well as a shorter hospital stay.

Urinary incontinence is more common with age, due to risk factors such as menopause and enlarged prostate. Incontinence is also more common in pregnant women, those with prior hysterectomy or prostatectomy, those with neurologic conditions, and some medications.

Many major surgeries are being performed with the use of “robots” in operating rooms. Robotic assisted surgery is not truly a robot in the sense it does not function on its own. It is a form of laparoscopic surgery performed with the use of small instruments placed through tiny incisions.

A transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) guided prostate biopsy is the gold standard for the diagnosis of prostate cancer. This is generally indicated for patients with an elevated Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) or an abnormal rectal exam. It is performed in an office-based setting using local anesthesia. While the ultrasound is good at imaging the overall prostate anatomy, it is not very good at detecting cancerous lesions. Therefore, biopsies are traditionally performed using a mapping technique to sample certain areas of the prostate where we know cancer tends to form but can not target specifically concerning areas.

Abi Offringa, PT, DPT is a Physical Therapist at Urology Clinics of North Texas. She received her clinical Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene. She completed months of clinical rotations with the main focus on sports medicine at the beginning of her career. She is now focusing on pelvic floor issues after being recruited to be a part of the UCNT pelvic health physical therapy team.

Bethany Davidson PT, DPT, PRPC is a pelvic health physical therapist and Director of Physical Therapy at UCNT. She received her clinical Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, TX. After working as a pelvic health physical therapist for 2 years, she earned her Pelvic Rehabilitation Practitioner Certification (PRPC), which distinguishes her as an expert in the field of pelvic rehabilitation. She has been a pelvic health physical therapist with UCNT since January 2021. Prior to that, she worked at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, TX.
Manual Therapy
Abi is most interested in treating pre-/post-partum women, constipation, urinary incontinence especially with athletes and weightlifters, pain with sexual intercourse, erectile dysfunction, and many more diagnoses. She is Barbell Rehab Method Certified and has training in exercise prescription, dry needling, manual therapy, cupping techniques, electric stimulation, internal and external pelvic floor muscle treatment, and many other treatment modalities that focus on the patient as a whole. She is an avid researcher and stays on top of current research in order to provide best clinical practice and education for patients.
