Crystal House

If you know anything about what a Clubhouse is, you know that it is SUPPOSED to be member run with staff supervision. These reviews are written by angry members that do not participate. The Crystal House Clubhouse is funded by DMH. If the members are not actively participating then they are not "billable" which means the Clubhouse loses funding which means members won't have a Clubhouse to attend at all. I have never had an issue with staff other than a couple talking tos about my attire. Yes, you are expected to be clean and somewhat modestly dressed. The Clubhouse offers many opportunities to socialize WHILE PARTICIPATING. It is by no means all work and no play. The staff are friendly and humerus but, hey, we all have our days. It is true that the clubhouse is for those with mental illness, you need a referral to attend.

As far as the kitchen goes, it is sanitary and clean. Members and staff wear gloves hats and aprons. The bathroom, I can only speak for the women's bathroom, is clean. It is nothing less than expected. Members are expected to clean the bathroom as it is there for us. The employment unit staff, Emma, is very good at finding jobs for those serious about working. Jane, the education unit staff is also very helpful helping members start their journey to a higher education. Catherine, the business unit staff is, well, as patient as she can be with the members she has to deal with every day. Kuaku, he works in the kitchen and snack stop unit, as staff. He is very good at his job, very friendly and very patient with new members that wish to lend a hand preparing and serving meals.

This is just one member's view on the Clubhouse but it has helped me greatly and, when I needed it, gave me something that made me feel useful and appreciated.

I am a current female member and if I could I would give the crystal house NO stars the crystal house is very poorly run the staff are unkind to members and will yell at the members who are just trying to rest in the chairs and tell them that if they want to sleep to go home they are more than likely tired from their meds.

The kitchen is very dirty or unclean and they serve to the public yuck!! well it is not as clean as my kitchen anyway.The staff at the crystal house clubhouse will even yell at you when you are trying to socialize with your friends and they will say to get to your work order day! I thought this was a club house for the mentally ill and to help you socialize?

The staff also make members write pre written letters or letters that are written by the the staff to send to the governor begging to not to shut the crystal house down and when you write a letter telling the truth or what you think of the club house the staff get mad at you and ask you to leave or not to write the letter what is up with that??

Then they have a huge t.v that has a sign on it that says DO NOT TOUCH! and if you ask to put something on the staff will not let you.

The bathrooms are just nasty and stink and the staff will make you clean them.

overall this is a depressing place to come to and the staff are unhelpful unkind and rude at times.The staff loose alot of good members and some of them just walk around town groggy from their meds not having a place to go one member who had alot of good ideas for the club was thrown out for saying that staff is a joke and I have seen them treat him rudely and were mean to him and treated him unfairly because of some of his meds that he took and now he just walks around the woods all day the club house lost a great person and it makes me sad to see the staff throw out so many good people and see them walking around on the streets they should have every right to come to the club house and be able to express their opinions .

This place is a badly run"club house" and I would not recomend any one to come here until they change the the way this place is run and change some of their rules and get new staff THEIR ARE ALOT BETTER PLACES TO GO FOR HELP THEN HERE GO TO A MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONAL LIKE LIPTON CTR,NORTH CENTERAL OR TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR THE CRYSTAL HOUSE IS A POOR OPTION RIGHT NOW .

I will change my review if and when the crystal house is run different to bad to see a such needed place for the mentally ill be run so poorly

THE STAFF ARE RUDE AND ONLY HELP THE MEMBERS THEY "LIKE" .

THE DIRECTOR OF THE CRYSTAL HOUSE DOES ABSOLUTE NOTHING AND SHE HIDES IN HER OFFICE PLAYING ON THE COMPUTER TALKING ON THE PHONE AND HELL SHE EVEN BRINGS HER DAMB BABBY TO WORK IN THE CRYSTAL HOUSE CLUB HOUSE THIS JUST SHOWS HOW UNPROFESSIONAL THIS DIRECTOR IS.AND THE CLUB HOUSE ON AS A WHOLE

AND THE"CRYSTAL HOUSE IS A WASTE OF MONEY I HOPE THIS PLACE GETS SHUT DOWN SOON TOO MUCH WASTED $$$$$$$$MONEY$$$$$

THEY NEED TO GET THEIR ACT TOGETHER AND HELP THE MENTALY ILL OR LET ANOTHER AGENCY TAKE OVER OR BETTER YET SHUT THIS PLACE DOWN IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO TRULY HELP THE MENTAL ILL...
