While on vacation trapping, officers would often telephone Judge Hastings primarily on criminal matters. If needed, he would meet the officer with a prisoner to bind over to Superior Court for a serious offense. He would travel by canoe about two miles to Walker’s Bridge at the public road crossing the Saco River, hear the State’s evidence and then act judiciously on the paperwork all at stream-side. He then had to paddle the two miles back to camp. It was an earlier era when justice was meted more swiftly, yet neighborly.
This type of mediation can also be helpful in employment disputes, and other disputes where the parties may want or need to maintain some type of ongoing relationship. At times, in this type of mediation, the mediator is less concerned with whether parties reach an agreement, and is instead more focused on helping the parties transform their relationship.

Jon also worked in the Cumberland Legal Aid Clinic as a student attorney representing family law clients. During the 2020 pandemic, Jon worked for the State of Maine’s Economic Recovery Committee. Prior to law school, Jon joined a Portland-based startup where he managed the daily operations of a supply chain software company focused on local food. Jon attended Cornell University in Ithaca, New York and graduated with a major in Economics and a minor in Music. At Cornell, he spent time as a research assistant in the Economics Department, riding with the Cornell Club Cycling Team, and playing piano with the Cornell Jazz Band. Jon currently serves as the Chief Development Officer of Jazz Residency Initiative, a nonprofit, music education organization that he co-founded in 2015. Jon grew up in Denmark, Maine and is a graduate of Fryeburg Academy. He now lives in Center Conway, New Hampshire where he enjoys running, hiking, cycling, and skiing in the White Mountains.

He is now offering mediation services (both in person and via Zoom) for a variety of matters. Jason focuses his practice on municipal law and civil litigation (including construction cases, property disputes, and personal injury); however, he has experience in various legal areas, including administrative law, appellate law, and condominium/HOA law. Jason lives with his wife Liz and their daughter in Madison, New Hampshire. Aside from his legal interests, Jason is a published novelist, an avid sports fan, and a Christmas village "architect." Jason has coached high school soccer and enjoys rock climbing and other outdoor activities with his wife and daughter as often as possible.

Andy graduated cum laude from the University of Minnesota Law School in 2006. He has since been admitted to practice law in Maine, Minnesota, Wisconsin and New Hampshire. Andy is presently a member of the Maine Trial Lawyers Association. Andy began his career practicing plaintiff’s personal injury at a well-respected firm in Duluth, Minnesota before practicing for several years at a medium-sized firm in Portland, Maine. Andy met his wife Kristen (a native Mainer) at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota where he graduated as an Economics major in 2001. They reside in Fryeburg with their son, daughter, and two dogs. Andy spends any free time he has outside playing soccer, running, skiing, and curling.
