General Info
DKM Embroidery was created in 1996 by Deborah K and Ronald A Mattox to service new businesses in the area with custom decorated apparel and signs for their business. Both Deborah and Ron have been in the apparel business since 1972, producing apparel for public and private schools, colleges, and major retailers such as JC Penney and MACY * S. Many of the skills learned during the past 25 years are now being made available to the local market. It became apparent that while the demand for embroidery services was strong, DKM Embroidery needed to offer additional services. By 1998 screen printing was added to our service list. In the year 2000, sublimation and digitizing services were added. And finally, in 2001 large volume commercial contract decoration and packaging services were offered. During our first few months of business, as many small companies starting up do, we worked out of our home. After just 2 months a retail showroom was established in the Clinton Corners shopping center on the corner of Clinton and Washington Center roads. This facility served us well as we established many new business contacts over a three year period. We needed more space for additional equipment, and decided to move the showroom to 6210 Lima Road into a newly constructed shopping center. The Lima Road showroom was approximately 3000 square feet, and served as a showroom and light manufacturing area. When we moved into this space, we had a total of 18 embroidery heads. The concept of a showroom with windows open into the sewing area proved to be very popular with our customers. In fact, in the years that followed, apparel decorating franchises were established and sold by other firms under the names of Hometown Threads and EmbroidMe using similar showroom plans. In 2001 we purchased our current building located at 3203 Caprice Ct., and moved the manufacturing into it. The Caprice building allowed us to acquire additional equipment. The next several embroidery machines were industrial in nature, each being either 12 or 15 heads. Our total embroidery capacity currently is at 70 heads, with additional equipment being purchased in our long term business plan. In 2002 we decided to bring screen printing in house, with the purchase of a 10 color M&R automatic press and gas dryer. Since we were building a new shop, we decided to set standards offering only the best finished printing and productivity. We installed a pin registration system, with a metal halide light source, and OYO image setter. In 2005, a 14 color M&R press was added, the gas dryer was upgraded to a 6 foot wide model, and the compressed air was upgraded to a 25hp high capacity model. As of 2007, we have 70 heads of embroidery, 2 digitizing systems, 2 automatic screen presses, sublimation printing, and several heat presses. We plan to expand our building by 10, 000 square feet during 2007 to meet expanding business demands.
