Glaucoma is a disorder that occurs when fluid pressure increases within the eye. Over time, this pressure may cause irreversible damage to the optic nerve and result in vision loss. While there is no cure for glaucoma, prevention involving early detection and thorough comprehensive testing may help prevent future vision loss. Collins Vision provides state-of-the-art technology to test for glaucoma, including OCT (optical coherence tomography) that takes an image of the nerve to look for damage from glaucoma. Our physicians may recommend medications, usually in the form of eye drops, or suggest glaucoma surgical treatment to be performed by Dr. Collins.

A cataract is a clouding of the eye’s natural lens that occurs as we age. This cloudiness blocks and distorts light passing through the eye and thus impedes clear vision. Over time, the cataract will grow larger and cloud more of the lens.

Diabetic Retinopathy
Diabetic retinopathy. If you have diabetes, the tiny blood vessels (capillaries) in the back of your eye can deteriorate and leak fluid into and under the retina. This causes the retina to swell, which may blur or distort your vision. Or you may develop new, abnormal capillaries that break and bleed. This also worsens your vision.

Ultrasound
After the topical anesthetic eye drops have been administered, your surgeon makes a very tiny incision in the eye, that is so small it’s “self-sealing.” They then perform a technique called phacoemulsification. During this step in the procedure, your surgeon uses ultrasound energy to break up the cataract-diseased eye lens into microscopic particles, which he gently suctions from the eye. An intraocular lens (IOL) implant is then inserted into the eye to compensate for the removal of the eye’s natural lens. If bilateral surgery is being performed, the eyes are typically scheduled one to two weeks apart.

A brow lift is a procedure in which the skin of the forehead and eyebrow are tightened to reduce the appearance of frown lines in between the brows or in some cases to raise the eyebrows. Oftentimes, patients will choose to have a brow lift in conjunction with eyelid lifts or tucks in order to achieve a more rested and youthful appearance with smoother skin in the eyelid and brow area. The combination of these procedures will also reduce downtime related to surgery.
