Offering veterinarians and pet care services. Dr. Hope Jankunas and Dr. Jeremy Frederick acquired Companion Pet Hospital of Fishkill in 2014. Building upon what the practices founder, Dr. Ouart, had started, their acquisition of the Fishkill veterinary hospital enabled them to bring to the area their brand of expert veterinary care with a compassionate touch. The Fishkill location offers a full suite of veterinary services, including wellness/preventative care, a full in-house diagnostic laboratory and pharmacy, digital radiography, comprehensive dental services including oral surgery and dental radiography, and an OR fully equipped for soft tissue surgery, among others. Acupuncture and integrative medicine services, including therapeutic laser, are also offered at this location. Companion Pet Hospital has on staff three vets in Fishkill: Dr. Jankunas, Dr. Selzner, and Dr. Frederick (Acupuncture).

Happy Life Animal Rescue, a foster-based animal rescue serving the Hudson Valley, NY. We provide veterinary care including vaccinations and spay/neuter surgery to pets at HLAR. We are happy to offer a complimentary first physical within the first 30 days of a pet’s adoption from HLAR.

We are a full-service veterinary health care facility. In addition to the services listed below, we are fortunate to have convenient access to board certified specialists in surgery, ophthalmology, dermatology, radiology, and ultrasonography for either onsite or outside referral and consultation.
Behavioral Counseling
• Changes in social behavior: There are a lot of reasons that dog behavior changes over the course of a dog’s life, but if you notice a sudden, uncharacteristic behavior from your dog, a veterinary check should be your first stop. For example, if your dog usually plays nicely with dogs at home or welcomes pets from humans and suddenly he is avoiding dogs and people, or even snapping at them, a full pain assessment should be your first check.

3. Support skin and coat health with Omega Fatty Acids. Fish oils are chock full of anti-inflammatory omega fatty acids. They can be administered as a supplement to your pet’s diet or you can feed a salmon-based food that is naturally high in these ingredients.

Bacterial and Viral Infection Treatment
Improvement, it’s time to see your Vet. Prescription medications are available to stop the itch and provide immediate relief for you and your pet. Your pet’s skin will be checked (using a microscopic examination called “skin cytology”) and treated for secondary yeast and/or bacterial infections, which exacerbate itch. Some allergy flare-ups are a sign of a chronic condition called Atopic Dermatitis and will require a long-term plan for management with your Family Vet or a Veterinary Dermatology Specialist.
Ear Infection Treatment
Outside. Bathe your pet regularly using lukewarm water and a gentle soap-free oatmeal shampoo to wash away environmental debris and calm itchy skin. Avoid getting water in your pet’s ears and follow a bath with a gentle ear cleaner to prevent ear infections.

Hip Dysplasia Treatment
• Obsessive licking: Dogs will lick to comfort themselves, and if they’re experiencing on-going joint pain or muscle discomfort they might lick at that spot obsessively, even to the point of creating hot spots or bald patches in their fur. This is usually behavior that happens at home during downtime, so it’s not something your vet will be privy to unless you alert the doctor that you’ve seen it.

Additionally, many pets require a weight loss plan and to have any complicating issues (such as infections, Cushing’s Disease, and Thyroid problems) treated as well.
Heart Disease Treatment
Your pet will be monitored closely by a licensed veterinary technician while he or she is under anesthesia. We use state-of-the-art equipment to monitor your pet’s heart rate and rhythm (ECG), oxygen saturation (Pulse Oximeter), respiration (Capnograph), and blood pressure. Fluids are administered via an IV catheter to help maintain circulation and blood pressure, and a heating blanket is used to help maintain your pet’s body temperature.

At the Companion Pet Hospital, we perform spay (ovariohysterectomy) and neuter surgery. Additionally, our surgery suite is fully equipped to perform soft-tissue and orthopedic surgery when needed.

Laboratory Services
To initiate this process, we believe every pet needs and deserves an annual physical exam focusing not only on administration of the core vaccines, but more importantly on evaluation of its overall health. This includes an assessment of lifestyle-appropriate core and non-core vaccines, tests for internal and external parasites, and age appropriate blood tests.
X-Ray
Companion Pet Hospital acquired the Animal Hospital of Kent, a veterinary hospital in Carmel, from Dr. Mark Feldman in 2016. In an effort to continue the tradition of personalized care with a focus on preventative pet medicine, this location offers wellness/preventative care, an in-house diagnostic lab, digital radiography, comprehensive dental care including digital dental radiography, an OR fully equipped for soft tissue surgery, as well as many other veterinary services.
