NeurologyNeuro-ophthalmologists take care of visual problems that are related to the nervous system; that is, visual problems that do not come from the eyes themselves. We use almost half of the brain for vision-related activities, including sight and moving the eyes. Neuro-ophthalmology, a subspecialty of both neurology and ophthalmology, requires specialized training and expertise in problems of the eye, brain, nerves and muscles.
MRIThe neuro-ophthalmologist will need all relevant information prior to your appointment, including office notes, results of laboratory tests and reports of CT and MRI scans. If you do not have a doctor referring you please make an appointment with one of our Eye Associates of New Mexico doctors. If your condition requires a neuro-ophthalmic visit, you will be referred by our doctors.
Eye ExamEach patient is given a complete eye exam to determine the health of the eyes and assess the need for medically necessary contact lenses. This exam may be done by an Eye Associates’ ophthalmologist or optometrist depending on your insurance plan and location that you are receiving care. If you are seen by a physician that does not fit contact lenses you will return for further evaluation by a contact lens provider to determine what type of lens would best serve your needs. You will be charged at both visits for the appropriate services and, depending on your insurance plan, a co-payment for each visit may or may not be due at the time of service.
Cataract SurgeryEye Associates of New Mexico was founded in 1976 and has evolved into one of the largest comprehensive eye care practices in the United States. Over Fifty Ophthalmologists and Optometrists provide a full range of services, from LASIK and cataract surgery, to healthy eye examinations and the management of complex eye disease in 15 clinic locations statewide.
GlaucomaFrom the beginning, the doctors of Eye Associates knew they were creating something special. For example, when the practice co-sponsored free glaucoma screenings in its downtown Albuquerque office, lines stretched around the block, and the staff worked into the night to help check thousands of people for early signs of the vision-threatening disorder. When a specialist went to operate in a distant office, the technical team bundled into the car as well--something that happens less often today because of on-site technical staff. And as those early patients returned for checkups, with family members who needed care, or even just to say hello, the staff became more and more familiar with their needs and their lives.
OphthalmologyWe appreciate your interest in Eye Associates of New Mexico, the largest ophthalmology and optometry practice in the Southwest. We are pleased that you are considering becoming a part of our organization.
Laser Eye SurgeryDisposable soft contact lenses are now available for those with dry eyes, astigmatism and the need for bifocals. They block harmful ultraviolet rays from the sun and come in a variety of fun natural blended colors. Even those with special needs following eye surgery or diagnosed with keratoconus may benefit with custom designed contact lenses. We start with a computerized topography similar to that used in LASIK to map the surface of the cornea. Our doctors then determine the best contact lens material and design to assure success.
