Acute sinusitis feels like the common cold and then can last for 2-4 weeks. Subacute sinus inflammation is an extended period of time, ranging from 4 to 12 weeks. At the 12 week mark, sinusitis becomes chronic. If sinusitis occurs more than once a year, it is recurrent sinusitis.

Sinusitis

Medical Weight Loss
Snoring results from turbulent, disordered flow of air during breathing. Importantly, this may occur in the nose, at the junction of the nose and throat or in the throat itself. Snoring can be disruptive to your own sleep, as well as that of loved ones (or even those trying to sleep down the hall!). At The Rontal Clinic, the evaluation begins with gaining a clear understanding of the location of the problem and its severity. Often nasal obstruction can be treated medically. However, some cases of nasal or partial pharyngeal obstruction require surgery. In many cases, weight loss can also be beneficial.

A comprehensive medical history, physical examination and a series of diagnostic tests can help determine where the tinnitus is originating. If you experience persisting, unexplained tinnitus, youâ€™ll need a hearing test (audiogram). Reviewing the patterns of your hearing loss may lead to the diagnosis. However, other tests, such as a brainstem auditory evoked response (BAEP), which is a computerized test of the hearing nerves and brain pathways; a computer tomography scan (CT) scan; or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan may be needed to rule out a tumor occurring on the hearing or balance nerve. All of these diagnostic studies can be performed right at The Rontal Clinic.
Computed Tomography
Nasal obstruction and mucosal inflammation may be evident by simply looking into the front of the nose. However, a deeper view into the nasal passages may be required to better diagnose nasal pathology or to more carefully understand the exact point of obstruction. In these cases, an endoscope, or fiberoptic camera, may be useful for examining the internal nasal anatomy. The exam is brief and, with the use of topical anesthetic/decongestant spray, well tolerated in the office. A computed tomography (CT) scan may also assist in further understanding diseases that result in nasal obstruction.
Chemotherapy
Surgery and/or radiation are the mainstays of treatment. Chemotherapy is often used as an adjunct to radiation and is not as toxic as that used in other sorts of cancers.

Dr. Gene Rontal was born in Detroit, Michigan and spent his educational years in the Detroit Public School System, graduating from Cooley High School. After high school, he entered the University of Michigan undergraduate program in Literature, Science, and the Arts. This was followed by a medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School. Following graduation from medical school, he spent two years in Detroit as an intern and general surgery resident before going to the University of Minnesota Health Science Center. At Minnesota, he completed a residency in ear, nose and throat/head and neck surgery

Dr. Yang is double board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. She practices in general adult and pediatric otolaryngology, as well as facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. Lesions
During your hoarseness evaluation, a detailed history will be taken, and patients will undergo an examination of the larynx (voice box) with scopes to directly look at the vocal cords in the office. This hoarseness exam helps the doctor look for changes of the vocal cords, such as nodules, polyps, lesions, or weakness of the vocal cords.

Treatment recommendations are best made by a broad, multi- disciplinary team, called a Tumor Board. The physicians of the Rontal Clinic participate in Tumor Boards at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. In particular, Dr. Matthew Rontal is a director of this group. Participating specialists include not only the many doctors who collaborate in this care, but also a spectrum of nursing, speech, and language, nutritional, and physical therapy providers.
