Evergreen School of Music

Evergreen School of Music is a wonderful music school. Our two children have been taking lessons for 2 1/2 years. Our son, 11 years old, takes guitar lessons with Kevin (the owner) and our daughter, 7 years old, takes piano lessons with James. I can't say enough great things about either teacher. Both our children are thriving with their music and love playing!!



We have been especially impressed with our daughter's piano teacher, James. His Jazz based teaching style incorporates many different teaching methods, which allows him to teach our daughter amazing musical skills. She reads music, plays changes (chords) and has begun to sing! James is one of the most patient and understanding music teachers we have come across. He always encourages our daughter, but never pushes her beyond what he feels she is open to and capable to learn. He provides an outstanding program that incorporates reading music, playing and singing songs and putting on musical shows that give each student the opportunity to build the skill or performing and/or public speaking that we haven't found anywhere else. Last fall (Oct. 2013), she played "Satin Doll" for an audience of parents and fellow students. My aunt (who has a huge musical background) was impressed with how well she played this classic song! Then his past May, our daughter played and sang "Rainbow Connection" in front of an even larger crowd of parents and fellow music students with confidence!! Thank you James!! He is truly a dedicated, caring and knowledgeable teacher that my husband and I would highly recommend to anyone!.



If that isn't enough of a reason to send your kids to Evergreen School of Music, in addition I have learned to read music through my daughter with the methods that James uses - and I had NO previous music training prior to my daughter beginning lessons with James 2 1/2 years ago! They say you can't teach and old dog tricks - well I am proof that James can!!

Great place for kids and adults to learn music. They offer lessons in all the main instruments like piano, guitar, voice and strings. I took guitar lessons and was playing music from sheet music in no time. Been around for years unlike a lot of other Evergreen music companies that have folded so that says something about the quality of the lessons.

Don't expect James to teach your kids to actually read music. He teaches them to memorize, doesn't expect any practice as homework. The kids enjoy it, but after years of teaching, not being able to read cords is insanity. He charges far to much to be so laxidazical in his teaching methods. I wouldn't say he is the easiest person to work with either.
