Neuromas are very painful yet benign growths of nerve tissues that are typically found between the third and fourth toes. It occurs primarily in women. Also known as ‘pinched nerve’ or a nerve tumor, neuromas are characterized by a burning sensation, tingling, and numbness between the toes and the ball of the foot, particularly when walking. Skin Cancer
Other signs of foot cancer or toe melanoma include sores and ulcers that won’t heal, bumps that crack or bleed, nodules and scaly areas. A mole, bump or patch of skin that looks odd is nothing to ignore. Your podiatrist will conduct a full examination to ensure that the tumor is, in fact, skin cancer, and this examination may include a skin biopsy.

Athlete’s foot is a skin infection caused by a fungus that grows between the toes or on the soles of the feet. The fungus usually attacks the feet because wearing shoes creates a warm, dark and humid environment that encourages fungus growth. The fungus also tends to grow in the areas around swimming pools, locker rooms, and showers, and since athletes tend to use these areas, it’s easy to see how the term athlete’s foot received its name. Not all foot rashes are athlete’s foot, and some conditions such as disturbances of the sweat mechanism or reaction to materials made in the production of shoes, as well as eczema and other skin disorders, can also mimic athlete’s foot.

A skin biopsy is a common foot cancer detection procedure where the Cincinnati podiatrist will obtain a sample of the skin lesion in order to send it to a laboratory for further examination.
