He completed his residency training at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke Medical Center, Grant & Westlake Hospitals in Chicago, Illinois. He practiced as a primary care physician in a health professional shortage area in Lee County, Virginia for five years as his service to give back to the community. During this time, he served in several leadership positions including as board member of the hospital, medical director of the intensive care unit and chairperson of the medical staff executive committee at Lee County Community Hospital, along with serving as the chief medical examiner for Lee County Virginia. He was involved in establishing multiple out-patient clinics as an expansion project for the hospital.
