General Info

The Criminal Investigation Division is one of the smallest divisions of the Chemung County Sheriff s Office in Elmira, N.Y. The division has a staff of lieutenants, sergeants, investigators and transcribing typists. It is responsible for investigating a variety of felony-level crimes, including murders, burglaries and robberies. The Criminal Investigation Division also handles serious and fatal motor vehicle accidents. In addition, it specializes in conducting internal and background investigations for deputy sheriffs and correctional staff. An investigator from the division is assigned to the department s TRIAD program. The division works with the Chemung County department of social services to investigate crimes against children.
